    Fundraising Goal:
    Emergency Department Cardiac Monitors

    Your support makes a difference

    Emergency Department Cardiac Monitors Upgrade

    The need: $257,696

Enhance the life saving capacity of the Emergency Department at Novato Community Hospital for all North Marin residents with new Cardiac Monitors.

    Project Description

    The Emergency Department at NCH
NCH is the primary source of emergency medical care for residents of North Marin. In 2011 15,594 patients were treated in the hospital’s ED - nearly 43 visits per day.

The ED is staffed by an outstanding group of board certified emergency physicians, specialized emergency nurses and highly trained support personnel. Our patients repeatedly rate NCH’s ED among the top 10% on a national Patient Satisfaction Survey conducted by the Press Ganey Company. In 2011, under the leadership of Drs. Kurt Kunzel and Timothy Gee, the hospital’s ED was ranked first among all 26 Sutter hospitals.

    ED Cardiac Monitors
Cardiac monitors are "the backbone" of emergency patient management. The monitors not only track cardiac functioning but also measure and display all of the patient’s vital signs, including respiratory capacity and blood pressure. The monitors are a key source of essential medical data used for diagnosing and treating all forms of medical emergencies.

    Technological Advances
After more than a decade of 24/7 service and while still fully-functioning and reliable, our aging cardiac monitors are no longer supported by maintenance contract, making the replacement of parts highly problematic.

In addition, today’s state-of-the-art monitors offer advanced features which improve patient care and ensure more-rapid treatment. The new monitors feature a highly flexible screen configuration, a more extensive menu of clinical measurements, an array of built-in clinical support tools, and the capacity to perform real-time arrhythmia analysis. The new monitors are portable, so they can remain with a patient anywhere in the ED. In addition, “smart” technology enables each monitor to prioritize patient information such as physiologic measurements, patient acuity and specific treatment requirements.
