    Funding Priority: Smart Infusion Pumps

Investing in the safety of our patients

    Funding Need: $240,000
    How You Can Help:
    • Your gift will help us equip the hospital with 40 smart infusion pumps, as well as acquire the CQI software necessary to run the pumps.
    • Investing in this project will also allow us to train healthcare providers on the new system, thereby improving the safety of our patients and their providers.

    Matching Grant Challenge

Novato Community Hospital has teamed up once again with Sutter Health in a matching grant challenge to fundraise for new Smart Infusion Pumps. Funds raised will purchase smart pumps equipment and supporting computer software needed to monitor and reduce medication errors. With this new technology, we will be protecting patients at the point of care. Your contribution to aid advanced technologies in patient safety will be matched by Sutter Health.

    Our Priority

Smart infusion technology can dramatically prevent medication errors by allowing the continuous monitoring of medication administration. The pumps can be pre-programmed with standard concentrations, as well as upper and lower dose limits, as specified in drug guidelines, and relative to each patient’s therapeutic needs. Smart Pumps are able to intercept and correct potentially serious infusion mistakes before they happen.

This new technology also enhances patient comfort and increases healthcare worker safety through its simplified module platform. The actual device is much less cumbersome than the tangle of tubes, wires and IV bags that are common with other systems, and it uses a needle-free valve system for improved healthcare worker safety. Smart Pump systems also appear less daunting to patients, thereby putting them more at ease. Unlike traditional IV pumps, these computerized Smart Pumps are also constantly connected to the hospital’s wireless network that utilizes software to log data and uses powerful data-analysis tools to gather “continuous quality improvement” (CQI) information. This data is used to identify best care practices, improve quality outcomes, and achieve financial savings.

    Our Plan

Novato Community Hospital’s commitment to acquiring top-of-the-line technology and improving patient safety is stronger than ever. As we continue our advancements in providing the best care for our community, a Smart Pump System is another important way for us to guarantee that all of our patients receive the right care, at the right time, in the right way, every time. We hope that you will help us by making a financial commitment towards the acquisition of a Smart Pump System at Novato Community Hospital. Thank you.
