    Success Story: Smart Infusion Pumps

Our success stories, your gifts at work

    Smart Infusion Pumps Campaign 2010

    We met the challenge!

The Sutter Health Capital Matching Grant Program provides access to capital via challenge grants that can only be received if a Sutter Health affiliated hospital meets a specific fundraising goal within a specified period of time.

What we accomplished with your support

Novato Community Hospital Development Office's goal of raising $240,000 by the end of 2010 has been accomplished through the generosity of community members from across Marin County. Over $62,000 was raised through the NCH Annual Golf Tournament and $84,000 received through a matching grant from Sutter Health, allowing NCH to purchase 40 smart pumps and supporting software to monitor and reduce medication errors, includign training for healthcare providers on the new system. With this new technology, we will be protecting patients at the point of care.

    About smart infusion pump technology

Smart infusion technology can dramatically prevent medication errors by allowing the continuous monitoring of medication administration. The pumps can be pre-programmed with standard concentrations, as well as upper and lower dose limits, as specified in drug guidelines, and relative to each patient’s therapeutic needs. Smart Pumps are able to intercept and correct potentially serious infusion mistakes before they happen.

This new technology also enhances patient comfort and increases healthcare worker safety through its simplified module platform. And unlike traditional IV pumps, these computerized Smart Pumps are constantly connected to the hospital’s wireless network that utilizes data and powerful analysis tools to gather “continuous quality improvement” (CQI) information. This data is used to identify best care practices, improve quality outcomes, and achieve financial savings.

    Thank you

The Smart Pump system is another important way for us to guarantee that all of our patients receive the right care, at the right time, in the right way, every time. Thank you to each and every one of our Smart Pump donors for making this huge improvement in patient safety technology a reality.

Because life is precious and meaningful…
Thanks to your support, Smart Infusion Pumps will be purchased in 2011 for Novato Community Hospital
