Medication review

Drugs and combinations of drugs can cause side effects such as dizziness, loss of balance and risk of falling. Have your health care provider or pharmacist routinely review all your medications, even non-prescriptions.

Have your vision checked

Personal Safety

Alcohol affects balance, especially with certain medications. Good nutrition is important for strength and health. Osteoporosis means weak bones. Ask about a bone density test. Move carefully. Get up from bed or chair slowly. Use a cane or walker if needed. Shoes should fit securely with thin, non-slip soles. Don’t climb on chairs or ladders.

Home Safety

Grab bars in the bathroom prevent many accidents. Clear clutter and cords from pathways. Remove throw rugs or fasten them securely. Good lighting is essential as eyes change with age.
