Novato Community Hospital is interested in you and your health. A recent visit to the doctor or the hospital by you, a friend or family member may prompt you to research a diagnosis or disease. Or, you may wish to stay up-to-date on medical information, including complementary medicine.

Whatever the question or concern, the Health Education Resource Center staff is here to ensure that you get information from timely current, reliable and professional sources that answers your health concerns.

Where is it located?

The Health Education Resource Center is easy to find. It is located on the first floor of the Medical Office Building, just inside and to the left of the back entrance (Highway 101 side of the building). It may also be accessed from the hospital through an indoor connector corridor. There is wheelchair access.

The Sutter Novato Medical Campus is located at the end of Rowland Way off of Rowland Boulevard, which exits from Highway 101, going north and south, and leads to the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center. The medical office building address is 165 Rowland Way.

Can I park nearby?

Yes, there is ample, free parking in front, to the side and along the back of the Medical Office Building.

What time is the center open?

Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Fridays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Hours may change as the service grows, so it's a good idea to call 209-1498 to check on the availability of reference assistance.

What services are offered?

The Health Education Resource Center is connected to San Francisco Bay Area medical libraries, including California Pacific Medical Center's Planetree Library.

The Center's resources include: three computer workstations linked to the Internet, models of the human body, videotapes, books, newsletters and other written materials. Medical textbooks, on-line medical journals and newsletters written for laypersons are accessible. A collection of books and other materials focused on complementary medicine are also available. In addition, information is available about the guided imagery and massage offered by the Institute for Health and Healing at Novato Community hospital.

Our librarians conduct in-depth research for patients and their families through a computer search of the consumer-oriented InFoTrac and the National Library of Medicine's Medline. All informational materials are obtainable in English and many are available in Spanish.

Other than video and audio tapes, the Health Education Resource Center's materials are for reference only and may not be loaned out. Information from this material may be photocopied at little or no cost.
