Novato Community Hospital Volunteer Service
The Novato Community Hospital Volunteers are dedicated to serving Novato Community Hospital, its staff, patients and the community.
The volunteer tradition at Novato Community Hospital began in 1960 and since then volunteers have donated more than 100,000 hours to patient care and fundraising activities at the hospital.
Volunteers are a vital factor in providing the patient-focused, people-centered care for which Novato Community Hospital is known. The volunteers work with a dedicated medical staff committed to the hospital's Healing Healthcare philosophy, which makes volunteer work both fun and rewarding.
The volunteer force is comprsed of people with diverse economic and cultural backgrounds. Some are high school or college students, some are retirees and some are working professionals. The current membership is approximately 80 women, men and students ranging in age from 15 to over 80 years.

Your contribution as a volunteer can make an important difference to patients and their families. Should you choose to work directly with patients, assignments may include work in the following areas:
- MED/SURGERY UNIT
- SAME DAY SURGERY
- PATIENT CARE PAVILION
- EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
- CRITICAL CARE UNIT
- NUTRITION SERVICES
Volunteers may select assignments with indirect or no patient contact such as:
- GIFT SHOP
- INFORMATION DESK
- MEDICAL LIBRARY
- MEDICAL RECORDS

There are also opportunities to help with special projects or with fundraising. Volunteers are needed to help plan and staff educational programs and services offered to the community by the hospital. Examples would be NCH’s annual Skin Cancer Screening & Men’s and Women’s Wellness Days. Volunteers also raise money to benefit patient care at the hospital and to promote well-being within the community. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who wish to offer their time and services to the hospital on a project-related basis.
