Volunteer In-Service Work Areas


Med/Surgery:

  • Run errands: deliver patient mail, flowers, menus and newspapers, refresh water, stock department kitchens, etc.
  • Perform tasks for other departments, such as: folding, bulk mailings, stuffing doctor mail boxes


Same Day Surgery:

  • Work closely with the nursing staff
  • Provide information and refreshments to patients’ families and friends
  • Assist patients with pre-op procedures
  • Assist patients and staff in recovery room

Patient Care Pavilion:

  • Meets and greets family members and familiarizes them with Unit procedures
  • Familiarizes families with location of services within the hospital (i.e. Café 101, telephones, restrooms & Gift Shop)
  • Assists Nutrition Services, helping patients with menus and offering water and juice
  • Assists patients with meals, TV, Video Program, reading material and other services that will enhance their stay
  • Assists staff with answering phones, filing, ordering supplies, and other clerical duties

Emergency Department:

  • Welcomes and assists patients, offering a variety of services
  • Facilitates as liaison between staff, patient and family members
  • Stocks treatment rooms, cleans waiting room and replenishes magazines, runs errands, and assists staff where needed

Critical Care Unit:

  • Meets and greet families and familiarizes them with CCU procedures and the Chaplaincy Program
  • Familiarizes families with location of services within the hospital (i.e. Café 101, telephones, restrooms & Gift Shop)
  • Maintains a comfortable and attractive environment in the Family Waiting Room
  • Assists with patient room preparation
  • Assists staff with assembly of charts and departmental packets

Nutrition Services:

  • Assists with menu distribution and collection
  • Serves and collects patient’s meal trays
  • Offers a cart service of beverages to patients
  • Assists patients with meals, when needed
  • Restocks nutrition centers throughout the hospital

Gift Shop:

  • Assists customers with purchases
  • Operates cash register and credit card machine
  • Assists with inventory, pricing and display
  • Gift wrapping

Information Desk:

  • Greets patients and visitors, directs people to the correct departments, answers questions and escorts those who require it. Morning and afternoon shifts are available.
  • Assists with preparing hospital-related mailings and other clerical tasks
  • Accepts and arranges delivery of flowers and mail
  • Assists patients with Video Program
  • Maintains a comfortable, pleasant environment in the atrium

Medical Library

  • Assists librarians with in-depth research relating to diagnosis or disease by using reference material and on-line resources, which may be requested by our patients, staff or community

Medical Records

  • Assists staff with computer data entry
  • Assists with preparation of bulk mailings
  • Assists with photocopying, faxing, filing, etc.
  • Answer telephones and take messages

Fundraising:

Active members participate in annual fundraising efforts that have raised more than $100,000 since 1960. Funds benefit patient care, and provide scholarships to local young people who are pursuing health care careers.
